A good visit for a child is mostly about trust. Here is how we earn it.
A parent stays right in the room
For younger children, a parent is welcome to sit with us the whole time. Having you nearby is one of the simplest things that helps a child feel safe in a new place, so you are part of the visit, not waiting in the lobby.
We explain everything in kid-friendly words
We show your child each tool, let them touch it when it helps, and describe what is about to happen in plain, gentle language before we do it. Knowing what comes next takes most of the worry out of a dental visit for a child.
We go at your child’s pace
Some kids hop into the chair on day one. Others need a couple of easy visits just to get comfortable, and that is completely fine. We would rather build trust slowly than rush a child through something that scares them.

First visits and gentle exams
A relaxed check of your child’s teeth, gums, and bite, done at their pace. We watch how teeth are coming in so anything worth catching gets caught while it is still simple.
Cleanings and fluoride
A gentle cleaning to clear the plaque a toothbrush misses, plus a fluoride varnish that strengthens young enamel against the acids that cause cavities.
Dental sealants
A thin protective coating painted onto the grooves of the back teeth, where most childhood cavities start. Sealants are quick, painless, and one of the most effective ways to prevent decay in growing molars.
Gentle, laser-assisted fillings
When a tooth does need a filling, our Solea laser lets us treat many cavities with little or no freezing, and often no needle at all. Tooth-coloured materials blend right in.
No-drill cavity control (SDF)
For very young or anxious children, silver diamine fluoride is a liquid we brush onto an early cavity to stop it from growing, with no drilling and no needle. It is a gentle way to buy time until a child is ready for more.
Same-day help when it hurts
A knocked-out tooth, a bad toothache, or a chip from the playground does not wait for a convenient time. Call us and we will do our best to see your child the same day.
As your child grows into a teen, we can also look at clear aligners for straighter teeth, and everything we do sits alongside the regular checkups and exams that keep the whole family healthy.

The two things kids fear most at the dentist are the needle and the drill. Our Solea laser lets us skip both in a large share of cases. It has a gentle numbing effect of its own, so many cavities can be treated with little or no freezing, and often no needle at all. It is quiet, fast, and virtually pain-free, with no buzzing drill.

A scared child is not a problem to us, it is the whole job. We name every tool and show your child what it does before it goes anywhere near their mouth. We describe each step in simple, friendly words. And we let a parent stay right in the room so your child always has you nearby.
Sometimes the best first appointment is nothing more than a hello, a ride in the chair, and a chance to look around. There is no rushing and no judgment. Your child’s first visit
The Canadian Dental Association recommends a first dental visit by age one, or within six months of the first tooth coming in. That first appointment is short and easy. We count teeth, take a gentle look, answer your questions, and let your child get used to the sights and sounds of the office. No pressure, no surprises.
Starting early is not about finding problems. It is about making the dentist normal and familiar before there is ever anything to fix.
A few things that help
- Book a morning slot if you can. Most kids do best when they are rested and fresh.
- Talk about the visit in simple, positive terms. Skip words like hurt, needle, or drill, even to say there is nothing to worry about.
- Bring a favourite toy, blanket, or stuffed animal. A familiar comfort object helps a lot.
- Let us know ahead of time if your child is nervous, has had a rough visit before, or has any special needs. It changes how we plan the appointment.
- For a first visit, you are welcome to bring your child along when you come in for your own checkup, so the office already feels familiar.
We know when to bring in a specialist
We are general and family dentists who love treating children. We are honest that we are not a pediatric specialty office, and the large majority of kids do wonderfully with us.
Once in a while a child needs care that is better handled by a pediatric specialist, for example very extensive treatment or care that calls for general anesthesia. When that is the right call, we will tell you plainly, help you get to the right place, and then welcome your child back to us for their regular checkups and cleanings. Knowing where our care fits is part of doing right by your family.
Children’s dental care is often covered
Miller Dental Care accepts both the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and Healthy Smiles Ontario. Both programs cover checkups, cleanings, and treatment for eligible children, so many families pay little or nothing out of pocket for their kids’ care.
