Miller Dental Care is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the confidentiality of your personal health information. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices concerning the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information in accordance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and the standards set by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO).

Retention of Personal Health Information

We retain personal health information in accordance with the RCDSO’s guidelines on record keeping. Generally, we keep records for at least 10 years after the date of the last entry in the record, or 10 years after the day on which the patient reached or would have reached 18 years of age, whichever is later.

Access to Personal Health Information

You have the right to access your personal health information held by us and to request corrections if necessary. To request access or corrections, please contact our Privacy Officer. We will respond to your request within 30 days, as required by PHIPA.

Electronic Communications

In compliance with CASL, we will only send commercial electronic messages (CEMs) with your express or implied consent. All CEMs will clearly identify Miller Dental Care as the sender and provide an easy way to unsubscribe.

Infection Prevention and Control

While not directly related to privacy, we adhere to the RCDSO’s standards for infection prevention and control to ensure the safety of our patients and staff.

Informed Consent for Treatment

We obtain informed consent for all dental treatments, as per RCDSO guidelines. This includes discussing treatment options, benefits, risks, and costs.

Professional Development

Our dental professionals engage in ongoing continuing education to maintain and enhance their skills, as required by the RCDSO.

Complaints Process

If you have concerns about our privacy practices or how your personal health information has been handled, please contact our Privacy Officer. If your concerns are not resolved to your satisfaction, you have the right to complain to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.

Changes to Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on our website and will be effective upon posting.
